Market Alert (!)

Update 06-04-2020

PV industry events organizer Solar Promotion GmbH and Freiburg promotional body FWTM GmbH & Co KG announced the Intersolar Europe solar and energy storage trade show will not take place this year.

“On account of the major impact anticipated across all industries and the uncertainties in planning even for the second half of the year, we have decided to cancel the 2020 event and wait until June 2021 to hold it again,” the two companies said in a message to exhibitors. The next The smarter E Europe [show] is set to take place from June 9-11, 2021.

As of now, the organizers are working hard to determine which parts of the exhibition and conference program can be reproduced online. The smarter awards will be presented to the winners online in order to honor the industry’s innovations on an international stage despite current developments.

Update 16-03-2020

As long as the Netherlands does not come into a complete “lock-down” situation, we will make every effort to honour agreements made. If the government decides that all logistics movements will be banned, it will of course end, but this is not yet the case.

As long as we can, we are doing everything in our power to keep serving you. We wish you, your loved ones and employees a lot of health and wisdom during these difficult times.

Team PVO

Update 03-03-2020

Due to the spread of the new corona virus (COVID-19) the organization has decided to postpone trade shows Solar Solutions International and Green Heating to Monday 7 September through Wednesday 9 September.

Official statement from the organization:
In the past few weeks we have had frequent consultations with authorities, experts and other relevant parties. An outbreak in the Netherlands has now been officially confirmed by the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment, while a further spread of the virus seems likely. The health of our exhibitors and our 15,000 visitors is our main priority. Therefore we see no alternative to postponing the trade shows.

Practical information:

  • The trade show will be moved in its entirety to Monday 7 September through Wednesday 9 September.
  • The location remains the same: Expo Haarlemmermeer Vijfhuizen (nearby Schiphol).
  • The grant program remains the same or becomes even larger. All exhibitors, seminars, activities and exhibitions are part of the fair in September.
  • Already ordered tickets remain valid. This also applies to VIP tickets and ordered business packages.

Together with JinkoSolar, we simply postpone our plans to September. We look forward to seeing you at stand D13.

Update 06-02-2020

The Coronavirus is top news for the solar industry for now and the foreseeable future. We will continue to update you on the latest state of affairs.

There are a number of important signals that could affect availability and prices:

  1. The outbreak of the virus is now classified as ‘force majeure’, see link below: This means that Chinese manufacturers, if they use it, can cancel their contracts and deliveries.
  2. For the time being, factories remain at a standstill because personnel cannot get to work, material transportation is difficult and the production of raw materials is delayed.
  3. More and more signals are coming through that the markets in China and India will strongly grow in Q2 due to new stimulation measures. With this manufacturers are expecting an increase in pricing of cells and therefore the pricing of modules (see also: coronavirus-could-cause-solar-panel-price-spike/).

In uncertain times like these, it is very important to share your forecast with us. We recommend advising your customers as well about this situation. In most cases this is a force majeure for everyone. You can of course also contact us at any time. We are here to help you through this difficult business situation.

Update 30-01-2020

It should come as no surprise that the Coronavirus creates consequences for trade between China and the rest of the world; most certainly for us. We are currently receiving requests from all over Europe for panels and inverters. This indicates an uncertain period and shortage in the market. To be completely honest, we must say there is no concrete answer to the question, “What will the Coronavirus mean for PVO and our valued partners?”

Our intelligence channels are providing information daily. It is not good news. Our commitment is to provide you with updates as quickly as we can. Here is the most recent news:

  • The Chinese New Year holiday period has been extended at least until 10 February. This means production will be delayed. Taking into account a ramp up period for travel we expect that no panel will roll off the production line before mid-February.
  • There is a bottleneck in the supply of raw materials for panel production. Distribution within China is always halted for the Chinese New Year holiday period. If the holiday period is extended further, this will cause even greater delays.
  • Major shipping companies are informing us that ships cannot or will not sail for a period of 4-6 weeks.

In short, be advised that we expect a troubled period. Keep talking to us about possibilities in the coming months. We will continue to fight for your orders and positions as always. With the knowledge of today, it is crystal clear that uncertain times are coming. We must work together to minimize the impact as much as possible.
