Trina Solar: FAQ

At PVO International we frequently receive questions about the solar panels of Trina Solar regarding topics as technology, modules and snow load. We submitted the most frequently asked questions to Trina’s technical department and are happy to share them with you.



What kind of frames are available for Vertex and Vertex S?

We have only one frame available. This frame is mentioned in the datasheet.

What connector type applies to Vertex and Vertex S?

We are supplying the Trina TS4 connector as a standard.

Can Vertex and Vertex S be clamped on the short side?

Yes it can be clamped on the short side. We can provide an additional document to show you the clamping options including the loads.

Is there a carbon footprint certificate available for Vertex and Vertex S?

This is not available yet. The product is so new, that we haven’t been able to go through a Life Cycle Analysis. This will follow later as this is a long process and will take several months.

Can you list the Vertex, Vertex S, Honey and Tallmax panels on certificated fire class A, B or C?

This can be done in a very simple way. All modules with glass-backsheet construction are rated as CLASS C and all dual-glass modules are rated CLASS-A.



Can you explain the key technology of Vertex and Vertex S?

It is difficult to explain it in short. The key technology driver is the 210mm cell, the Multi Bus Bar design, the high density interconnect technology and a new frame design which increases mechanical robustness.

What is the real benefit of P-type vs N-type?

The N-type technology has few technical benefits:

  • Slightly higher efficiency
  • Lower first year degradation
  • Lower temp coefficient and therefore better performance at higher temperatures

Those are the main advantages from a technical perspective.

Can you explain the difference between monofacial and bifacial?

A monofacial module can only capture light from the front side of the panel, while a bifacial module can capture light from both sides.

What are the main differences between Honey, Tallmax, Vertex and Vertex S?

The different panels are reflecting different generations of products with different technologies (cell size, bus bar, different overall sizes and power classes). Vertex and Vertex S are the products Trina will focus on in the future. These will be the only products we will be offering.

Can you explain more about the most important certificates and quality marks?

Yes, we are providing a base set of certifications for all our products, such as IEC61215 and IEC61730, accompanied by Ammonia, PID, Salt Mist and Blowing Sand Tests. We might have on individual basis also additional certificates for specific requests. If you would like to know more about this, please contact your account manager.


Installation and O&M

What mounting system can be used to achieve (higher) snowload requirements?

It is difficult for us to talk about specific mounting systems, as we are not a supplier of them. We can offer options like 6-point clamping to achieve higher possible snow loads. If you would like to know more about this, please contact your account manager.

What are the maximum snow- and windload (Pa) for Vertex and Vertex S?

The maximum test loads for Vertex S are +6000 Pa and -4000 Pa, not considering the safety factor of 1.5. We guarantee design loads of +4000 Pa and -2666 Pa, considering the safety factor.

Can you list all panels that are approved for short side clamping?

We don’t have a list of modules that are allowed for short side clamping. We can supply an additional document showing all modules with the short side clamping options and the respective loads. Overall, all modules can be clamped on the short side. At the end it is only limited by the load which is required.
